Mental Health Counselling in Calgary: A Warm Invitation to Begin Your Healing Journey

Hello, I’m Jennifer Dawn Watts, founder of Living Well Counselling Services. With nearly two decades of experience as a therapist and someone who has personally navigated the path of seeking therapy, I understand the courage it takes to consider mental health counselling. It’s not just about addressing challenges—it’s about embracing the possibility of healing, growth, and a life that feels more aligned with who you truly are.

At Living Well, we’ve created a space where therapy is not just a service—it’s a collaboration. A partnership where you are met with compassion, respect, and a deep understanding that healing is a process that includes growth and development. Not about a problem to be fixed. The same way we have a family doctor and don’t expect our bodies to work perfectly 100% of the time, we shouldn’t expect that of our minds. It’s a difficult world we navigate and it’s natural to need support and a place to heal.

Why People Seek Mental Health Counselling

Here are some of the common reasons people seek counselling at our clinics:
  • Anxiety and Stress: Persistent worry, panic attacks, or feeling overwhelmed by daily pressures.
  • Depression: Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or a lack of motivation that interfere with daily life.
  • Relationship Issues: Communication problems, conflict, or a sense of disconnection with partners, family, or friends.
  • Grief and Loss: Coping with the death of a loved one, divorce, or other significant losses.
  • Trauma and PTSD: Processing past traumatic events and their impact on current wellbeing.
  • Life Transitions: Navigating changes such as career shifts, relocation, or personal growth.
  • Self-Esteem and Identity: Exploring self-worth, purpose, and personal identity.
  • Faith-Based Concerns: Seeking meaning, purpose, healing from religious trauma and finding hope in spirituality or faith-based resources.
If any of these resonate with you, know that you are not alone. Many people are taking their own brave steps toward better health right alongside you.

Our Approach: Compassionate, Experienced, and Client-Centred

At Living Well, we believe in a therapeutic approach that is:
  • Client-Centred: You are the expert of your own life. We collaborate with you to understand your experiences and work toward your goals.
  • Evidence-Based: Our therapists are trained in various therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and many more ensuring that our methods are grounded in research and best practices.
  • Holistic: We recognize the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, and we consider all aspects of your well-being in the therapeutic process. If you would like to work with a faith-based practitioner, don’t hesitate to ask our Intake Coordinator and they’ll sure to help.
We understand that therapy is a very personal journey for many, and we are here to walk alongside you with empathy, confidentiality and respect.
Options: Therapy That Fits Your Life
We know that life can be busy, and finding time for therapy can be challenging. That’s why we offer flexible options to fit your needs:
  • In-Person Sessions: Visit us at one of Calgary locations—North (Kensington) or South (Douglasdale).
  • Online Therapy: For those who prefer the comfort of their own space or cannot attend in person, we offer secure online sessions.
  • Phone Counselling: An option for clients who find phone sessions more convenient or comfortable.
Additionally, we offer a free 20-minute consultation to help you determine if we’re the right fit for you. This is an opportunity to meet with a therapist, discuss your concerns, and learn about our approach without any financial commitment.
Affordability: Therapy That Works for You
We understand that cost can be a barrier to accessing mental health services. To make mental health counselling more accessible:
  • Insurance Coverage: Many extended health plans cover therapy services. We can provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance provider.
  • Sliding Scale Fees: Some of our therapists may be able to offer you a sliding scale fee structure, allowing you to choose a rate that fits your financial situation.

Our goal is to ensure that financial concerns do not prevent you from accessing the care you deserve.

Our Commitment: Over 100,000 Hours of Client Care

With nearly two decades of experience, our team at Living Well has dedicated over 100,000 hours to providing compassionate and effective therapy. Our clinicians range from newer counsellors who can offer you more affordable rates to experienced clinicians, some with over 30 years’ experience in the field of mental health counselling. All Living Well mental health counsellors are committed to ongoing professional development to ensure they offer you the best care possible.

We are proud to be a trusted resource in the Calgary community, offering support to individuals and couples navigating life’s challenges.
