Jenn Betts, MA

JennBettsJenn Betts understands that a variety of challenges arise throughout different stages in one’s life. She brings an experience of counselling diverse populations at the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre, Calgary Counselling Centre, and Woods Homes. Jenn believes that counselling is most effective with a strong client/counsellor relationship and counsels from an empathetic and understanding approach. Her gentleness with clients has been welcomed and appreciated. Should clients request, Jenn is able and willing to incorporate aspects of faith into her practice.

Depending on the needs of the client, Jenn uses an ecletic approach drawing primarily from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy. Both have been proven to be clinically effective. Emotion Focused Therapy does just that: it helps clients deal with difficult emotions and relationships in one’s life, helping the client move from distressing emotions to healthy and effective ways of feeling and expressing all emotions. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy helps clients with their thought patterns that may be contributing to their current distress. It is believed that all individuals struggle at one time or another with distressing thought patterns, and need help re-adjusting the way they think about certain issues.

Jenn understands that faith is an important part of some clients’ lives and therefore, upon the request of the client, draws upon spiritual resources to help with the healing process throughout therapy. If clients do not want to include their spirituality in treatment, Jenn believe in respecting client needs and can create a treatment plan strictly based upon psychological principles shown to yield effective results.

Jenn understands that life is busy and therefore has several evening appointments available to help meet clients’ needs. Daytime appointments are also available. It can be difficult to take that first step for counselling. To help with that process Jenn offers free 20 minute phone consultation to help clients determine if she would be a good fit for them.
